I am eternally grateful... for my knack of finding in great books, some of them very funny books, reason enough to feel honored to be alive, no matter what else might be going on.

Loving My Job

Where has Mr. Flores been lately? This website hasn't been updated much lately. What gives?

I've been enjoying my new teaching assignment! This year I am teaching a first grade class. It has been six years since I was in a lower grade classroom, and boy did I miss it!

The best part of teaching kids as young as these is being able to get them (and keep them) excited about learning. My class loves to read! They rush through their paper work (not a good thing) so they can sit with a stuffed animal and read books (a very good thing)! We read two books out loud every day just for fun. This week we are reading a series of "How Do Dinosaurs..." books by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. We talk about books and authors, and we even wrote letters to Jan Brett!

Today, one of my students was working with another teacher. She was talking a lot about "Charlotte's Web" so the teacher asked her if I had read that book to them yet. The student said that no, I had read other stuff. The teacher asked, "Like what?" and the student said, "I don't know. He read like 100,000 books already!"

I love my job!
